Whether it is weight loss, detoxification or helping to get rid of cellulite, more and more people are now looking at body wraps for all these purposes and more. Sometimes the substances like lotions, mud, and seaweed are used as wraps and applied sans any kind of garment or band. Though there are different kinds of wraps, most of them are commonly classified as tension wraps, cocoons and hot sheet wraps, or mineral wraps.

Hot Sheet Wraps

In hot sheet wraps, substances like seaweed, herbs, and mud are dissolved in hot water. Then a sheet is soaked in this mixture and the wrapped around the client. Basically, the purpose of this exercise is to increase the temperature of the body to allow the client to sweat. This helps in eliminating the extra weight in the form of water and toxins that are eliminated through the skin. Though there are a number of hot sheet wraps which are used in conjunction with various substances, coffee wrap is a well known hot wrap because people believe that when used topically, coffee can help in reducing the water retention in the body which improves the appearance of cellulite. Other well-known wraps that are use in this method are juice, milk, and honey.

Cocoon body Wraps

In cocoon body wraps, the skin is first exfoliated and then the wrap is directly applied on it. Once this is done, a plastic blanket or sheet is used to seal the wrap completely. A well-known wrap in this category is the emollient wrap. This is particular good in cases where the hydration and softening of the skin is required. Shea butter is used in the process, which is nothing but a thick moisturizer.
Aromatherapy cocoon wrap is also another variation in this category. Here essential oils are used to revitalize or relax the client. Paraffin cocoon wraps are particularly useful for people with arthritis. These wraps help in the reduction of the stiffness and joint pain associated with the condition by warming up the joints.

Tension Body Wraps

The third type of body wraps is the tension wrap usually used with herbs and minerals. The underlying principle of these wraps is to make specific areas look slimmer by eliminating the extra fluid in those areas. Here, the area in question is wrapped tightly using plastic sheets or elastic bands. This causes the loss of excess fluid and sweating, allowing for the skin to look tighter and leaner.

Mineral Body Wraps

Similar to the tension wrap is the mineral wrap which is very popular these days. The mineral wrap works much the tension wrap with elastic bands, however the bands themselves have been soaked in minerals wrapped tightly around the body. The wrap works almost like a detox as you sweat out toxins and impurities, your body absorbs the cellulite reducing minerals and nutrients.

In any kind of tension wraps, it is important to make sure that the wraps are not overly tight since it can harm the blood vessels.
