Cellulite describes the pockets of fat that form dimples underneath the skin in specific parts of the body. These sites are the lower abdomen, thighs and the buttock area. The dimpling appearance that is the striking feature of cellulite is caused by congealed fat trapped beneath the skin, which distorts the connective tissues and leaves the skin patchy and irregular. It is on the subcutaneous fat layer that cellulite is most likely to occur. Cellulite is more likely to occur in women than in men.
Because cellulite often fails to paint the picture of health in many women, methods of how to get rid of its formation are just as varied as they are with its accumulation. Age is not a factor when it comes to the removal of cellulite and this only depends on the determination of the individual. One of the most obvious ways is a change of diet. Foods rich in fiber, fresh fruits and vegetables should be consumed on a regular basis as they are rich in nutrients and stimulate blood flow. Avoid caffeine beverages, smoking and alcohol, the latter of which slows down the digestive process and in turn allows the body to store food in the form of fat. Whole grain meals like millet and oats fight the buildup of cellulite.
Regular exercise like speed walking and sessions on a treadmill are another cellulite treatment and reduction strategy. Like monitoring food intake, this can be practiced in the comfort of the home. Use bodybuilding techniques to create muscle tone that will in turn firm up the subcutaneous cells. Exercise also burns off unhealthy fat cells that are responsible for the formation of cellulite. Alleviate stress as this can also facilitate development of cellulite. Massaging cellulite areas regularly increases blood circulation in these areas and in time, breaks up fat cells. Therapies like aromatherapy help to reduce cellulite. Blood circulation can also be stimulated by taking baths using a body brush and an exfoliating product.
